Reading is not everybody's thing. Some people are slow readers, and some are fast. Some can comprehend what they're reading, and some can't do this as well as others. When it comes down to it all, people have different reading techniques. Some people ask questions while reading, some take notes, and some can comprehend without any assistance. Reading is something that affects our everyday lives and is needed to succeed, whether taking the ACT, reading in an English class, or reading for one's job.
For me, reading has always been hard work. I didn't test very well on the reading portion on the ACT, I never liked reading books because I felt I was too slow, and, reading out loud, I felt was torture because I would stumble over big words and get embarrassed. My mom, being the English teacher she is, always came up with new ideas to try to get us to read. She would reward us with a new DVD, or game or even beanie babies for reading a book and explaining the plot to her. Her tactics surprisingly worked and got us to read for awhile. Reading to me was never on my top list of things to do in my free time, either. I always preferred hanging with friends, watching TV, or playing baseball, instead of reading.
I am the type of guy that's learning to interact with the text, because that way I feel I, can comprehend better. I like to ask questions about the readings, and I like to highlight important phrases or sentences. To me, this helps reading become easier. With my laziness and intimidation factors ahead of me, I realized that in order to get better, I need to keep reading and practicing.

When it comes to reading I am the kind of person that doesn't comprehend what I'm reading. But only when it comes to reading books for school. I can sit down and read Stephen King books and Harry Potter and stuff like that no problem. I love reading, but not when it comes to reading a history book.
Not that my comment has much to do with reading but with my ACT. One of my reasons why I am at UW-Fond du lac is because I scored low on my ACT and I applied at UW-Stevens Point for political science. They wanted to me retake my ACT but I said no way jose!! I hated that day and never wanted to go through that again! HATE HATE HATE IT!!!
I am a slow reader too and don't like reading for pleasure also. My sister was the same way when she was our age, but now she loves to read, in fact now instead of watching tv she reads books. So maybe there is hope for us after all.
